# Quick Start

> Easy steps to start using your STARS Keyboard

  * Windows 10 or 11 or macOS
  * CRC v2.9.0 or later
  * Available USB port on your computer

## Setup

Follow these steps to get up and running with your STARS Keyboard.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Plug it in">
    Connect the keyboard to your computer using the included USB cable, or supply your own if desired.

    Once plugged in, your computer will recognize the keyboard as a USB device.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Launch CRC">
    CRC will automatically recognize the keyboard on startup, or when plugged in during an existing session.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in">
    Press the `SIGN ON` key to open the CRC connection dialog. Once connected to the network, press the blank key below `SIGN ON` to activate your session.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start controlling!">
    If signing in worked properly, you're good to go.

    <Note>
      **Note that CRC must be in focus with an active STARS display for the keyboard to function properly.** CRC does not recognize key presses if a different application is in focus.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign out when finished">
    When you're finished controlling, press the `SIGN ON` key again to sign out. CRC will confirm that you want to disconnect from the network.
